The way to prevent cracking of quartz

Like other materials, quartz requires specific care and cleaning in order to prevent scratches, losing the shine or stains from certain products, and causing it to break down over time. The required care is quite easy, starting from regular cleaning using a wet cloth or paper towel. If needed, small amounts of non-abrasive cleaning products may be added to eliminate some of the product or food stains. What you can do to keep cracks off of quartz countertops.

When designing a plane joint, you need to consider the physical properties of quartz rock, and you need to take plate forces fully into account when selecting the joint location. Avoid joining in corners or in the openings of furnaces. Stress distribution must be considered in full while designing desk corners.

Therefore, all corners must remain within 25mm radius or greater when processed. When designing hole locations, the holes location must be greater than or equal to 80mm away from the edge of the table in order to avoid holes being cracked, and hole corners must be circular, with radius greater than 25mm. When installing a top, a 2-to-4mm expansion gap between the top and the walls should be provided, effectively ensuring the top does not crack from thermal expansion and contraction. Use supports for pots and hot plates: Quartz surfaces are highly resistant to heat and scratches. However, they may suffer from extreme or long-term heat and pressure. For that reason, if they are used as table tops, mostly in kitchens that employ sharp tools and extremely hot materials, supports or trivets for hot pans must be used. And a cutting board should be used at all times.

Avoid staining and cleaning up spills:
Liquids are the main culprits that cause staining on Quartz sheets, so you should always dry them off and wipe them down before the liquid is dried. Most quartz-based materials are resistant to liquids, like wine, vinegar, tea, coffee, or soda, but leaving spills or foods on quartz countertops for extended periods of time will create stains that are hard to clean.

Avoid products with high corrosion potential:
Quartz kitchen countertops do not need waxing or sealing because they are non-porous materials. Therefore, it does not require polishing, other than a few spots of visible damage, in order to remain polished and have the right finish.

Also, there are some products that are essential to avoid when it comes to cleaning and maintaining. Among products that should be avoided are those cleaners containing bleach, which, while highly effective in removing stains and whitening surfaces, is highly corrosive.

Clean immediately: Grease and oils are the primary products responsible for kitchen stains. To keep these from becoming an issue with your quartz counter top, you should either clean it right away, before it dries, or use a non-corrosive degreaser that helps loosen and clean up grease on the surface.

Avoid chemicals: Although quartz has high resistance to chemicals, the resin used to create the sheets may suffer due to continuous exposure to harsh chemicals, solvents, paint strippers, and other commonly used chemicals in kitchens. These substances may increase the development of cracks.

So, avoid using aluminizing compound, permanent markers, chemicals based paints, petroleum soaps, and other materials which can or do contain corrosion materials. The less often we stains our quartz countertops, the less effort we have to put into cleaning them properly. If we clean up spills and food residues every time we cook using a wet wipe, we prevent stains from becoming embedded.
To prevent the formation of limescale spots, and prevent long-term cracks, we need to protect surfaces against pressure and heat. It is also really important to know whether or not our countertops will resist direct heat sources, i.e., hot pans, pans, or containers.
If not, we may end up damaging it.

To avoid cracks, it is best always to use supports such as cloth and cutting boards. In any case, the safest thing to do is always ask the manufacturer of quartz stone countertop to find out how to clean it and, if in doubt, first clean a small part of the countertop and observe the result.
